Hey friends!

Bree here –

I just finished writing and designing a 3-Day Mini Mindfulness E-mail course where I teach you the basics of mindfulness – define what mindfulness is, the science behind it and 3 foolproof ways to practice it.

A few of livingbreely readers have SO graciously offered to provide their feedback and help me curate it to be valuable for you guys!

In the process of creating this course, I spent a majority of my time doing research on mindfulness. I’m a nerd at heart and I actually enjoy reading medical journals. *Pushes glasses onto the bridge of her nose*

The medical research studies on mindfulness and meditation have been completed by some of the top medical schools – including Harvard! The research shows that it can have a significant impact on the gray matter and wiring of our brains. But more about that in the course.

While doing my research, I also discovered that mindfulness and mindfulness meditation was confusing for those who were not familiar with either practice. Some even used the two practices synonymously.

So here’s the truth.

Mindfulness meditation is one way to practice mindfulness.

Aka: They can be practiced separately. You can use one without the other.

There are plenty of other ways to incorporate mindfulness into your routine.

Here is a mini break down of the two:

Mindfulness Meditation:

I write all about beginners meditation here. I break it down into 4 steps to begin a meditation practice.

If you’ve already begun your meditation practice you can check out my favorite beginner’s meditations here and my meditation playlist here.

The benefits of meditation are quite a list but here are just a few: decreased anxiety and depression, lower blood pressure, decreased feelings of stress, increased energy (this was huge for me!), improved sleep patterns, increased focus, and concentration -the list goes on!

But I get it – some people just don’t jive with meditation. Although I am a huge fan, my dad refuses to even try meditation. I tricked him into a practice once and he ended up falling asleep.

This taught me that meditation should always be practiced with true intention and curiosity, rather than being forced or pushed into it.

So maybe you want to try out mindfulness?

Mindfulness:

First, you should sign up for the Free 3-Day Mindfulness E-Mail Course. I really break it down for you folks!

Mindfulness can be practiced in ANY activity where you are fully present in the moment by remaining aware of your thoughts, physical sensations (think: all 5 senses) and our environmental surroundings.

One of my favorite ways to practice mindfulness is the simple act of drinking a cup of tea.

This is how I practice mindfulness when I’m drinking a cup of tea…
I admire the color of my cup.
I feel the warmth of the hot tea on my hands.
I listen to my breathing as I take a moment while my tea cools to my preference.
I smell the chamomile leaves.
I watch the steam rise from my cup.
I feel my hands slowly rise before tasting that first sip of warm tea.

Do you see how I engaged all of my senses in doing something as simple as drinking a
cup of tea?

I practice mindfulness and mindfulness meditation to help reduce my stress level, become more empathetic, increase my focus and keep my anxiety at a level where I can function healthily.

I hope this information helped clear up any confusion. Or perhaps, got you interested in trying out mindfulness or mindfulness meditation or BOTH!
