Finding keywords on Pinterest is EASY.
Yeah, I said it – E-A-S-Y! And I’m going to tell you why in just a second!
As I’ve mentioned on my podcast, Pinterest is more of a search engine, like Google or Bing, (does anyone seriously use Bing? I wanna know!) than it is a social media platform like Facebook or Instagram.
Think about, when was the last time you were “social” on Pinterest? Sure we have group boards and the ability to message people. But Pinterest is more about spreading ideas and inspiration than it is a highlight reel of charlatans or where we go to check out our arch-nemesis from high school who kissed our boyfriend at the prom. (*cough Instagram cough*)
But I digress 🙂
Just like most search engines, you’re going to have SEO or Search Engine Optimization. Which is a lot more intricate and takes a lot longer for the algorithm to rank your website because of several factors one of them being of the sheer volume. To put it in perspective…keywords on Pinterest is SEO on Google.
So why are keywords so important?
They help get more eyeballs on your content. They increase impressions, saves, and clickthroughs. Without keywords, it’s like reaching into your t-shirt drawer after a tornado came through and looking for your favorite t-shirt…in the dark. You’re going in with blinders. You want to use keywords that your target audience is search for and that Pinterest is automating into their search bar.
What NOT to do with keywords?
Don’t go crazy with the keywords. In this arena the term ‘the more the better’ does not apply. I’ve heard of some Pinterest teachers telling their students to keyword in niches that don’t even work with their client’s content. Like, meal prep blogger targeting keywords for home school parents or beauty bloggers. Unless you’re creating a meal prep recipe for homeschool parents or beauty bloggers…stick to your niche. If you’re a keto vegan meal prep blogger…stay in your lane and zone of genius. Don’t try to be in alllll the niches to try to ‘better’ your chances of getting more impressions.
