How To Deal With Stress + Overwhelm

If you caught my Instagram stories this week, I posted about how I was feeling a little stressed and a little overwhelmed.

Yes, me. Stressed? Overwhelmed?!

My mission is to help women grow their mindset so they can live more fulfilled, mindful and purpose-driven lives. But I get stressed out and overwhelmed sometimes too.

Why? How? Well for starters, I am a human being. (Or so I think? The verdict on the alien thing is still out!)

And secondly, I just have a whole lot going on this month.

–>I’m planning a new FREE workshop.

–>I’m launching another premium mindset course.

–>I’m building my mindset coaching practice.

–>I’m looking for a part-time assistant.

–>I’m also participating in a coaching workshop for the next few days! (Always learning, always growing!)

Oh and I might be moving

I look at that list and kind of laugh at myself because who WOULD NOT feel stressed out looking at that laundry list?

So in the midst of my overwhelm party (Yes, I call it a party! I like to spin into a positive!), I did what I tell all of my clients to do when they are facing overwhelm and stress.

  1. Take a step back.
  2. Take a breath.
  3. Re-evaluate.
  4. Confirm.

Here is what I mean!

Take a step back:

  • I wrote down a list of all of the things that I’m stressed/overwhelmed about.
  • I acknowledged that I’m spiraling…a little bit…okay A LOT.

Take a breath:

  • I did my favorite 3-3-3 breathing exercise to calm me down and reset my body to not be in fight or flight mode.
  • You can read about other breathing exercises I love here. 

Re-evaluate (This part is crucial!):

  • Was all of this happening TODAY? Or right this second? Nope!
  • Could I push anything back or rearrange it? YUP! (Do I need an assistant right this second?! I mean it would be helpful but not necessary)

Confirm:

  • If you’ve taken any of my courses, I always talk about self-adequacy. It’s the belief in yourself that you can handle anything.
  • So I confirmed with myself that I’ve always produced when I needed to. I’ve always hit my deadlines. I’ve always hit my goals – and even when I didn’t, it didn’t rock my world in the way that I was anticipating.
  • I’ve totally got this —> make this a mantra!

And the last and final thing that I did was: PLAY.

YUP! I gave myself a little recess, like I was back in kindergarten!

That night, after doing my exercises, I went over to a friends house and we made dinner, laughed and watched a funny movie on Netflix. (We watched the movie Ibiza on Netflix, totally recommend! It was hilarious and romantic)

You have to give yourself the opportunity to reset yourself! You gotta laugh. You gotta surround yourself with people who love you and make you want to laugh until you pee your pants. You gotta take a few hours to do something you really LOVE to do.

Especially when things can feel stressful and overwhelming – it’s actually so vital to get those happy chemicals flowing through your veins.

  1. I’ve never heard about 3-3-3 breathing exercise – thanks for sharing! Since I’ve changed my job to one from home and I do what I always wanted to do, my life is way better. I just found my perfect zone and now I now that all the stress I have sometimes I can bite with only a few personal affirmations. I’m the really happy person now but when I see my friends or members of my family who are all sacrificed to their workplace where they cannot even breathe… It really makes me upset.

    1. Hi Ana, I’m so happy for you! Finding work that feeds your soul is so rewarding and definitely dissolves a lot of that anxiety and angst. I totally agree – it’s very difficult to watch someone you love suffer with anxiety. Just hug them a little bit tighter and empower them to make healthy decisions for themselves! Xo 💕
