Hey, Friends!

So I just wanted to jump in real quick and give you a brief background on this post.

It was originally one of the weekly newsletters that I had sent out last year.

(If you’re not apart of my Breeweekly fam, I encourage you to join! CLICK HERE.)

Back when I sent this out, I had 39 subscribers and I’m pretty sure like 29 of them were my friends and family that finessed my way into signing up. (I love you guys!)

We’ve come along way since then, my email subscribers have exponentially grown, my newsletters have a different type of value, I’d liked to think my writing has even improved but importantly, my mindset has shifted considerably.
(And I’m sure, in another year I will be saying the same thing! #mindsetgrowth!)

Just to give you a preface: this was written during my high-anxiety time. I was constantly feeling shaky, light-headed, lost, worried, jumpy while, paradoxically, lethargic. Mental health is a really difficult thing to explain and is experienced SO differently for everyone.

*You can read more about it here*

Yoga and meditation were pretty much the only two things that really kept me going at this point in my life. The only place I truly felt any sense of calm was at the beach.

Anyway, I felt like this was one of my favorites so I thought I’d share!

Can You Hear Me Now?

I went to one of my favorite beaches the other day to catch the sunset.
I had just gotten out of yoga class so my legs kinda felt like jelly, rather than making the trek to the actual shore, I decided to just sit in my car and watch the sunset.

From where my car was parked, I was perched on a cliff, unable to see the waves or the shore, but was positioned to where I could see the horizon.

As I was waiting, the streets became packed with people; runners, friends catching up, cyclists, families, lovers taking a romantic stroll, people walking their dogs.

In the background, I kept hearing this howling sound. Almost like a vacuum but it seemed to come about quickly and very loud.

I ignored it and continued to sit in my car, appreciating the view and people watching.

A few moments later, the sun had set and all of the people had quickly seemed to disappear.

It got quiet.

Like really really really quiet.

Almost creepy quiet.

Sure enough, the vacuum sound I had been hearing came rushing through my car.

I held my breath – expecting that now that all the people were gone, I could finally figure out what it was.

The sound came again.

And again.

After a few moments, I realized that it was high tide and as the waves were crashing…their sound was echoing against the cliff I was parked on.

I instantly found that this was such a beautiful metaphor for my meditation practice and the value that it brings into my life.

I can easily find myself caught up in the “noise” of everyday life.

I can sometimes hear that inner voice, like the waves, but unable to recognize it through the noise of life.

As much as I observe my thoughts, like how I people watched this evening, it stills takes a moment for me to settle into stillness.

But when I do sit down to meditate for the day, I am always greeted with that inner wisdom, that light, that innate navigation system – whatever you wanna call it! It greets me with compassion, patience and important direction.

It’s like a cell phone that gets a sporadic signal during the hustle and bustle of the every day and then when I give myself a moment of stillness, it whispers “Do you hear me now?”
And I have learned to listen.
