Pinterest can be a great strategy for your coaching business or online business. Unfortunately, many business owners and entrepreneurs don’t tap into the power of Pinterest because they don’t understand how it works or the benefits of Pinterest for their marketing strategy. In this blog post, I will be busting 4 of the most common myths about Pinterest.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting in a coffee shop in San Diego working on some content for a Pinterest Membership site I am building.

Coffee shops are not my ideal place to work. I get easily distracted and start people watching or listening in on people’s conversations. I can’t help it if I’m a nosey nancy! I want to hear about your best friend’s boyfriend’s sisters drama on her wedding night!

But the powers at be had made me super focused that morning. Maybe it was the coffee? Maybe it was the blueberry muffin? Maybe it was the CBD I had taken a few hours before. But your girl was F-O-C-U-S-E-D.

The words and ideas were just flowing out of me. When I get these random spurts of ideas and information – I am frantically typing on my keyboard. I don’t want the ideas to slip away because you just never know if they are going to come back or stick around awhile.

I was in the middle of a thought when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around to see a really cute guy standing behind me.

My first thought is that he wanted to share my table because the space in the coffee shop was prime real estate. Maybe he needed a pen? A charger? A quarter? Did I have blueberry muffin stuck in my teeth? Or maybe it’s in my hair?

My mind shut off at the possibility of having a big chunk of blueberry in my hair and I just looked up at him with a blank stare.

Finally, he started talking. “Sorry to bother you but umm…I noticed…umm…that you’re doing something with Pinterest?”

I responded with an “Oh…yeah. I’m building a membership site. I consult online business owners on how to leverage Pinterest.”

He sits down across from me with his coffee and put his laptop down on the table.

Okay – am I like…having coffee with this dude now?

We get to chatting and he has his own podcast and also runs a blog about podcasting. He was wondering if Pinterest would be the right platform for him but he thought that Pinterest was for just for women, recipes, workouts and outfit ideas.

He was tired of posting all over Facebook, worrying about followers on Instagram, joining groups and posting his links, and all of the typical frustrations that I hear about most social media platforms.

It was time for me to pack up and head home but our conversation gave me so many ideas about how untapped Pinterest is for so many entrepreneurs, podcasters, coaches and healers.

I thought I would write this post about the most common myths or misconceptions about Pinterest!

Do any of these sound familiar to you?

1. It’s not a social media platform

Pinterest gets lumped in with other social media platforms but it’s actually a search engine. Just like Google, Yahoo, or Bing. (But I mean, who uses Bing?!)

Think about it – when was the last time that you were “social” on Pinterest?

Probably never.

Pinterest has its own SEO and algorithm that is less complicated than other search engines and allows your content to be found faster and with less mess.

2. It’s more than DIY’s, recipes, quotes and outfit ideas

I’m going to dive into the numbers in a second but there are over 300 million MONTHLY

Pinterest users. The way that I interpret that data is that…someone is into your weird shit too. You might think you’re the only person who is interested in selling hair caps for underwater basket weaving – but trust me there is a NEED.

Almost all niches are represented on the platform. So, it’s not just your mom picking out furniture for the dining room or finding the perfect photo to show your hairstylist.

Here are some quick numbers I found from Pinterest and other marketing research sites. You can read the full articles here and here.

  •  40% of Pinners Have a Household Income of $100k+.
What does that data tell you? Families that have over 100k of income can actually purchase your services. They can purchase your products. They are more likely to be candidates who can afford to work with you or buy your courses.
  • 93% of active pinners said they use Pinterest to plan for purchases and 87% said they’ve purchased something because of Pinterest.
  • 40% of New Signups are Men; 60% of New Signups are Women.
I know 40% isn’t a HUGE number for men – but put that into perspective out of 300 million monthly users – men are 40% of that statistic. So men ARE on Pinterest.
  • Millennials use Pinterest as much as Instagram.

3. Followers don’t matter

Pinterest is NOT Instagram. The platform does take into consideration how many followers you have but they more interest in your engagement. Pinterest measures engagement with 3 variables: views, saves, and click-throughs. It’s also important to be consistent with posting new Pins to your boards and adding fresh content.  That is what Pinterest values and will actually BOOST your content rather than followers

4. I can just post my Instagram/Twitter/Facebook content directly to Pinterest.

Please. Stop. Doing. This.

I would rather pour hot sauce in my eyeball than see another lazily copied Instagram or Facebook post on Pinterest. You need to create pins specifically for Pinterest. It takes about 5 minutes for each Pin and once you really get into a groove – it can be even less than that. If you utilize Canva for your marketing materials – they have tons of templates and images for you to use. Horizontal pins do not perform well. We want vertical pins ONLY! You can repurpose content but you need to be using actual dimensions that Pinterest favors.

I hope that this post was helpful and cleared up any misconceptions about Pinterest!

  9. Furthermore, i believe that mesothelioma is a scarce form of most cancers that is usually found in those people previously subjected to asbestos. Cancerous tissues form in the mesothelium, which is a protective lining that covers almost all of the body’s organs. These cells normally form in the lining of the lungs, stomach, or the sac that encircles one’s heart. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
