Hey! What’s up?

If you’ve been watching my Instagram stories lately than you know I’ve been OBSESSED with bone broth.

If you haven’t heard of bone broth it’s exactly what it sounds like…broth made from bones.

Aka: it’s the dressed in Chanel version of chicken stock.

Bone broth isn’t anything new. Grandmas have been making it way before it became this big “wellness thing.”

Now I’m not a dietician or nutritionist but all the experts say that it’s really freakin’ good for you.

It’s great for:

Aides in digestion & gut health
Boosts your immune system
Improves joint health
Give you healthy looking skin
Lowers Inflammation

So basically bone broth is packed with a ton of nutrients and vitamins.

How to use it/drink it:

Add to soups/stews, sautéed vegetables, substitute water for broth when making rice or quinoa or drink it STRAIGHT UP.

I’ll take a bone broth…neat. 😉

Now before I tell you my recipe can we just take a moment for some bone broth puns?

Every broth you take

I can’t broth without you

Take my broth away

Okay…carry on.

This recipe requires you to cook the broth for 12+ hours. I use a crock pot but you can also use a pot and leave on low. (If you’re comfortable)

I used the bones from an organic and free range chicken that we had for dinner the other night. When I’m crunched with time, I have even used the bones from a rotisserie chicken that I picked up at Sprouts!

Recipe

1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon of peppercorn
1 teaspoon of thyme
1 teaspoon of rosemary
(Or any herbs/spices you have on hand)
6-8 cups of water (you want the water to cover the bones so it just depends on the size of crockpot/pot you’re using.
Vegetable scraps! ( this is optional but I think it adds a ton of flavor. I used carrot tops, celery, leftover onion, 3 cloves of garlic)

Leave on LOW for 12 hours.
Strain when done. (you may need to run it through a strainer a few times)
Store in an airtight container and it will keep 3-5 days.

For any leftovers, I like to freeze in an ice cube tray and pop them out as needed.

I hope you found this helpful and take a shot at incorporating it into your daily recipes.

Let me know if you have a favorite version of bone broth!

    1. Hey girl! Great question. The only other bones I’ve tried it with are beef bones. I would say that the beef broth is a bit denser than the chicken broth. I find it easier to incorporate the chicken broth into my day-to-day cooking/recipes so it’s just more of my preference. Try it out and let me know how you like it!
